Mark Penwill

Biography

Raised between an Agulhas farm and suburban Cape Town, Mark’s first languages were German, Afrikaans and English. In 1999, his family emigrated to the UK where he read languages and literature at St John’s College, Oxford. He returned to South Africa in 2012 where he took up a position at M&C Saatchi, became a voice-over artist with Tongue Twisters and an actor with Emma Ress Management. He then worked as an actor on international commercials, films and television series. He performed with and directed an improvisational theatre group, locally and internationally. During COVID, he began writing screenplays, including a few shorts that have been internationally screened. What Would Maggie Do? his entry into the 48 Hour Film Festival 2023/24, won Runner Up Best Film at Filmapalooza.
