Damon Heatlie

Biography

Damon worked in the local film industry as a producer, director, editor and screenwriter in the early 2000s. Having produced over 60 music videos, he was twice nominated for South African Music Awards. Damon has also produced several long-form documentaries - including Waiting for Justice (eTv, 52 min, 1999), which won the Sithengi 1999 Best New Documentary Award, Phuzekhemisi (SABC, 52min, 2004) and Legends of the Casbah (72 min, 2012/2016), which premiered at the Durban International Film Festival in 2012. He has worked and continues to be involved as a scriptwriter in feature film development and television dramas and has also directed short films. Damon currently lectures in the fields of scriptwriting and directing, but also teaches in other film studies courses at Wits University.
