Plot Summary

From the perspective of small-scale African farmers and environmental organisations, The Last Seed examines the growing dominance and consequences of corporatised agriculture methods, such as hybrid seeds, monoculture and chemical fertilizer. Focusing on the conflict between state-sponsored commercial seed and self-cultivated seed, this urgent documentary spotlights the various threats to soil health, biodiversity, food systems and an indigenous way of life. Instead, the farmers and organisations defend agroecology as a culturally-aligned and sustainable farming method.
